Tribulus Terrestris Information
The herb tribulus terrestris shows remarkable qualities in naturally increasing the level of luteinizing hormone levels (LH) thereby improving the manufacture of testosterone in the body - a level of up to 30% is claimed. It is furthermore used by people doing serious bodybuilding.
Tribulus Terrestris - Testosterone Enhancer
In bodybuilding, Tribulus is used for its testosterone boosting properties more than anything else. Studies have shown over 50% increase in testosterone levels when taking Tribulus Terresteris. We all know testosterone helps build muscle and strength, that’s why some pro athletes use steroids and other prohormones to enhance performance.
Erectile Dysfunction
Preliminary animal studies found that tribulus heightened sexual behavior and increased intracavernous pressure. This was attributed to increases in testosterone. There haven’t been any well-designed human studies to confirm these early findings.
Tribulus terrestris and sexual behavior
One of the rodent studies found Tribulus to be useful as a sex booster. Sexual behavior and intracavernous pressure (ICP) were studied in both normal and castrated mice to further evaluate the role of Tribulus as an aphrodisiac. ICP refers to blood flow into the corpus cavernosa of the male reproductive organ penis.
Health Benefits of Tribulus
Tribulus contains a complex mixture of compounds, primarily flavonoid glycosides, steroidal saponins and protodioscin. Users who respond well to tribulus report significant increases in libido, energy and drive but it’s not clear from the available research what compounds are responsible or how they exert their effects. The most popular theory is that protodiscin may be able to cause the anterior pituitary to release LH (lutenizing hormone) which in turn causes an increase in testosterone release from the testes.
