What side effects are caused by Tribulus Terrestris?
Just as with any supplement, caution should be exercised when considering taking Tribulus terrestris. In the research studies done, no adverse affects where noted from the use of Tribulus terrestris. In addition, further research demonstrated no adverse effects on the central nervous or cardiovascular systems. At this time no toxicity or negative effects presently exist when Tribulus terrestris is used as a nutritional supplement. High doses of Tribulus terrestris may lead to over stimulation and insomnia. Always start with a portion of a capsule if you are very sensitive to herbal supplements.
Safety:
Although no significant side effects should be expected at doses of tribulus contained in commercial dietary supplements, animal studies have suggested the possibility of locomotors (muscle coordination) disturbances following ingestion of tribulus in high quantities. In sheep consuming tribulus plant for several months, neurological disease was characterized by an irreversible, asymmetrical, weakness of the hind limbs.

Effect of Tribulus terrestris treatment on impotence and libido disorders:
To test the effectiveness of Tribulus terrestris in treating impotence and male libido disorders, we enrolled 11 subjects, composed of 4 men diagnosed with lowered or nonexistent libido and 7 impotent men. To these two groups, 3 x 1 Libilov tablets were administered per day for 2 weeks, without any additional vitamin supplements or pharmaceutical therapeutics. 50% of the subjects with reduced libido reported increased sex drive after Libilov treatment. Close to 60% of impotent subjects experienced improved erection, including prolonged duration of erection after treatment. This trial suggested that even a short period of treatment with Libilov was effective in treating these two conditions. Furthermore, as with previous trials, no adverse side-effects were observed.

When sheep consume tribulus terrestris as 80% of their diet, liver damage and other changes occur.
