Tennis is a game played between two players (singles) or between two teams of two players (doubles). Each player uses a strung racquet to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt (most of the time yellowy-green,[1] but can be any color or even two-tone) over a net into the opponent’s court. The modern game of tennis originated in the United Kingdom in the late 19th century as “lawn tennis” and had heavy connections to the ancient game of real tennis. After its creation, tennis spread throughout the upper-class English-speaking population before spreading around the world. Tennis is an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society at all ages. The sport can be played by anyone who can hold a racket, including people in wheelchairs.

The server shall stand behind the baseline on the deuce court within the boundaries of the singles court when playing singles and within the doubles sideline when playing doubles. See court dimensions. All even points are played from the deuce court and odd number points played from the advantage court. The server shall not serve until the receiver is ready. Serves are made from the deuce court to the opponents service box on the deuce court. Advantage court to advantage box. If the server misses his target twice, he loses the point. If the ball hits the net and goes in the correct service box, another serve is granted. If the server steps on the baseline before contact is made, the serve is deemed a fault. The receiver is deemed ready if an attempt is made to return the server’s ball. The receiver can stand where he likes but must let the ball bounce in the service box. If the ball does not land in the service box, it is deemed a fault and a second serve is given. If the ball is hit by either opponent before the ball bounces, the server wins the point.

A tennis game is commenced with the server from one team tossing the ball into the air and hitting it with a racquet. The goal is to send the ball in a diagonal direction so that it lands in the receiver’s deuce court. When the first point of the game is made, players move to the left and continue play from the advantage court. They then continue to alternate between courts after each point is made until the game has been won.Tennis is a unique game in that it has special names given to the various points awarded. When calling out the score, the person serving the ball should always say their score first. A score of zero is called out by saying ‘Love’, and from there, the points go to 15, 30, 40, and game. If both players get a score of 40, the game must become a tie-breaker, and a 40-40 score is announced by saying ‘Deuce’. In a ‘Deuce’ situation, if a player gets a point, they are said to have ‘Advantage’. If a player with an ‘Advantage’ gets another point, the game is over.Scoring proceeds as in Tennis - 15, 30, 40, (Deuce,) Advantage, Game. A game is won when a side in the lead with 40 wins the next point or when a side with “Advantage” wins the next point. There are 6 games to a set and typically 3 sets are played, as in Tennis.
